WWF Nectar Fund

The WWF Nectar Fund is a grant and technical assistance facility supporting climate-adaptation focused and nature-positive African impact businesses to raise capital and scale their impact.

Why is it important to adapt to climate change and protect nature?

Climate change and nature loss threaten human survival and the ecosystems we depend on. It affects food security, water resources, economic stability, and the resilience of communities around the world. The world’s poorest countries and communities are disproportionately impacted.

Addressing these challenges requires action from governments, communities, businesses and investors alike. Businesses play a critical role in shaping how land is used, how food is produced, and how natural resources are managed. Some outstanding businesses see opportunities in this challenge. They are already supporting communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change, and protecting nature, through innovative models, whilst generating positive returns. Investors have an opportunity to share in and grow these positive impacts and returns.

What does the WWF Nectar Fund do?

WWF Nectar Fund provides grants and tailored technical assistance to growing businesses that strengthen climate resilience and support healthy ecosystems, in sectors such as agriculture, forestry, and water. It collaborates closely with current and future prospective investors in these businesses, using our support to unlock further capital to support positive impact at scale.

Nectar Fund was launched in 2026 and is supported by Norway: funded by Norad and developed in partnership with Norfund. It collaborates closely with the flagship Dutch Fund for Climate and Development, sharing resources, team and expertise.

What are the goals of the WWF Nectar Fund?

By the end of 2028, the WWF Nectar Fund aims to work with 10-15 outstanding African businesses, primarily in Kenya, Tanzania and Madagascar, to enhance solutions that benefit people, climate and nature. It aims to:

  • unlock USD 6 million in additional climate- and nature-positive investments;
  • strengthen the climate resilience of 35,000 people;
  • support 1,400 sustainable jobs.

Beyond this, it aims to spur demonstration and replication of high-impact, scalable models, supporting the reshaping of the narrative of African climate investment from risk to opportunity.

How will it achieve results?

The WWF Nectar Fund builds on WWF's portfolio of work supporting Bankable Nature Solutions: businesses that generate positive outcomes for people and nature while creating sustainable economic opportunities.

Together with WWFs offices in Kenya, Tanzania and Madagascar, it will identify promising businesses and build a strong pipeline. Drawing on WWF’s local presence and technical expertise, and in close consultation with current and prospective investors, the fund will support selected businesses in strengthening their operations, climate resilience, and preparing for increased investment, helping unlock the capital needed to scale their impact.
