Quenching the thirst of South Africa's sugar farmers
Sugar cane is a vital cash crop for South Africa’s economy, but it’s also one of the thirstiest, drinking 600 to 1,000 litres of water per kilogram of sugar produced.
WWF is keen to remind sugar growers that in a country which has already lost 40 percent of its wetland resources, water is a precious commodity.
